Although the UK has been a leader in 5G since the technology started being unveiled, it now seems inevitable that there will be delays in its implementation due to the coronavirus pandemic.
That is what a report from the PwC has just confirmed.
Everything was ready to go. All four operators already had plans for customers nationwide and they were just about ready to launch their commercial services when the COVID-19 pandemic came on the scene and disturbed everybody’s plans. Now, due to required social distancing, supply chain issues and new priorities appearing, UK citizens will have to wait a little longer before they can enjoy the new 5G.
In fact, the health crisis disturbed everything in the mobile industry. Many people are now at home with phones that need repairs but can’t find anyone to take care of them, as most repair stores are closed. For small issues, it is worth looking at a magazine on troubleshooting and repairs where it is possible to find answers to some of the problems a phone may have. It is better than waiting for this ordeal to be over, knowing how important our mobile phones are to each and every one of us today.
With the added demand due to the lockdown, the operators have had to refocus on other priorities. Right now, electronic communication has become the central element of everyone’s life, whether it is through video calls or normal ones. There is also added demand for broadband as many mobile applications are being used, either for business or pleasure and entertainment purposes have reached a high peak of demand with services like Netflix and Amazon Prime.
The new technology was supposed to be made available this summer, but now it has been postponed to a still unknown future date. It is more important for operators to handle urgent repairs that may come up on the networks, to ensure continuous service to all users around the UK. They have had to augment, in many cases, the data allowance to their clients in order to ensure that there could be free access to education for children at home, and that everyone could have access to health resources when in urgent need.
However, this just emphasizes the importance of the 5G service. Nowadays, people need faster communication speed, and they need to connect many objects simultaneously to communicate properly. Therefore, the delay in 5G should not be too long as everyone works toward achieving the same goal: A faster and more complete network.
